Frequently Asked Questions about Our Camelina Product

FAQ 1: What is Camelina Oil?
Camelina oil is a plant-based culinary oil, cold pressed from the seeds of Camelina sativa — an ancient oilseed crop. It is one of the richest plant sources of omega-3 fatty acids (ALA), with 36–40% ALA content, and is naturally high in Vitamin E (tocopherols). It has a mild, slightly nutty flavor and a higher smoke point than flaxseed oil.
FAQ 2: How is your oil made?
We cold press camelina seeds in small batches locally. Cold pressing means no high heat is used during extraction, which preserves the natural fatty acids and tocopherols in the oil. The oil contains no additives — just pure Camelina seed oil.
FAQ 3: How do I use Camelina Oil?
Camelina oil is incredibly versatile. You can:
- Use it as a salad dressing or drizzle over vegetables
- Mix it into dips, hummus, or sauces
- Take it as a daily dietary supplement (1–2 tablespoons)
- Use it for light cooking — it has a higher smoke point than flaxseed oil
- Baking goods.
For maximum nutritional benefit, cold uses (dressings, supplements) are preferred as heat can reduce tocopherol content.
Tip 1: you may use it for skin and hair care.
Tip 2: you can also share with your pets to help with the health of the joints and furs.
FAQ 4: How should I store the oil?
Camelina oil is shelf-stable and does not require refrigeration — this is one of its advantages over flaxseed oil. Store it in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, use within 3–6 months for best quality. The bottle should always be kept sealed when not in use.
FAQ 5: What is the shelf life?
Unopened camelina oil has a shelf life of approximately 24 months when stored properly in a cool, dark location. Once opened, we recommend using within 6 months. Because our oil is unfiltered and contains no preservatives, proper storage is important to maintain freshness and nutritional quality.
FAQ 6: Do you deliver outside Texas?
Currently we only deliver within Texas, as required by Texas Cottage Food Law (Texas Health & Safety Code, Chapter 437). Delivery must be made personally by us, a household member, or an employee. We deliver anywhere in Texas — at markets, events, from our home, or online orders with personal delivery arranged.
FAQ 7: Are there any allergens in your oil?
Pure camelina oil contains no common allergens. The 9 major allergens (Eggs, Nuts, Peanuts, Soy, Milk, Wheat, Fish, Shellfish, and Sesame) are not present in our product. However, our oil is pressed in a home kitchen — if you have severe allergies, please contact us directly to discuss your specific situation before ordering.
FAQ 8: Is your operation licensed and inspected?
As a Texas Cottage Food Operation, we are not subject to governmental licensing or inspection — this is explicitly protected under Texas Health & Safety Code, Chapter 437. We do hold a current Food Handler’s Certificate as required by Texas law. All our products are properly labeled per Texas Cottage Food labeling requirements.
